i was charged with a class b misdemeanor of more than 50 less than 500 charge for shoplifting at walmart…..i was arrested and was in jail overnight and was bonded out for 500.00…..without going into major details i had about 60 bucks worth of makeup in my purse i had gotten to where my car was and an employee asked me to come inside… knowing what i had done was wrong and to be honest i was already having second thoughts i went back in and was honest with what i had taken ive never done this before never been in trouble ever so i am at a loss of what to do now…yes i know it was stupid but im a single widowed mother of three and when my husband committed suicide 19 months ago because of debt he left me with a mess and no income no insurance no nothing….i have a teenage daughter and 2 little ones under 10 and we have done without so much in the past months that when i saw an open package of mascara i thought why not…yes again i know stupid….now i face a court date with no money no lawyer and its in a county thats 45 minutes away which means ill be lucky if i have enough gas money to get there much less court fees….im on a fixed income from social security….and i dont quailify for any govt help bc i make 300 too much…i can barely make bills and groceries some months… im not looking for pity just giving background for my situation…..i cant go to jail.. i will not only lose my insurance on the house/car/life but im pretty sure id lose my kids too since i dont have any family that could take them either….probation would be good but doing community service would require me to drive back and forth and as i have said i dont have gas money…..plus i would have to be here for my kids by 330 m-f… that is also my reason for not being able to find a job near home..i cant afford daycare and have to work around my kids schedules and no one is hiring for the hours i would have to have….so im stuck and ive called so many lawyers no one wants to help without some sort of money and i have none so im turning to u…..please dont judge me im hard enough on myself as it is so are the ppl in my small community, they judge me enough based on my husbands suicide and have enough on my plate but if you can help me i would greatly appreciate it…..thank you for your time

Stop you are freaking out and me to! you do not do jail time for misdemeanors. You will probably be fined or given a chance to do community service. Walmart will not allow you back in the store and you will have it on your record.
If you want some assistance, call legal aide in your city in the morning. They will guide you in the right direction or help you for free. Its legal service for low income people. I know you are struggling. Call 211 and ask for the help you need. There is numerous agencies out there to help with all kinds of things. Stop stressing, its going to be ok.
    Take care of yourself.

    1) You won’t go to jail. Highly unlikely.
    2) They’ll transfer your probation and community service to the county court closest to you, if you ask the judge.
    3) They’ll put any fines on installments to be paid back, if you ask the judge.
    4) Find a pro bono attorney service to help you out.
