Regardless of your budget, you will not have to worry about finding accommodations in Jamaica.   Jamaican accommodations range from clean, safe guesthouses priced at between $10 and $20 a night to $300 per night resort suites with full maid service.   Of all the Caribbean islands, however, Jamaica is the one on which you are most likely to find all-inclusive resorts.

By booking your reservations at one of the all-inclusive Jamaican vacation resorts, you will not only have a comfortable room, but you will receive all your meals and snacks, airport transfers, drinks, gratuities, the use of all the resort’s facilities, and water sports if it is a beach resort.   If you stay at one of the all inclusive Jamaica vacation resorts, the only money you will need to carry is what you intend to spend while shopping.   You will even be provided with a bus for your shopping expeditions!

The one catch to choosing one of the all inclusive Jamaican vacation resorts is that many of them will not accept children.   So before you book one, find out what its policy on children is.   If you are traveling with your family to Jamaica, do not worry.   Some first class all-inclusive Jamaican vacation resorts accept kids, and we’ve listed just two of them:

The Beaches Boscobel Spa Resort at Ocho Rios has plenty to keep every member of your family busy.   For the adults, there is the fun of a swim-up bar, and the kids will love the free pools and the enormous water slide.   Kids can also enjoy face painting, treasure hunts, arts and crafts classes, as well as the presence of Sesame Street Elmo and the gang.

Your all inclusive Beaches Boscobel vacation will let you try your hand at windsurfing, sail boating, scuba diving, and hydrobiking.   The family can marvel at the Caribbean marine life with a trip on the resort’s glass bottom boat.   The resorts five restaurants are certain to have food to please palates young and old, and do not forget that the cost of your meals is included!

Your all-inclusive Beaches Boscobel stay will entitle you to play to your heart’s content at the nearby Sandals Golf and Country Club, widely regarded as one of the best in the Caribbean.   Even the kids are welcome, as long as the little ones under 10 tee off after noon.   Your greens fees and transportation to the golf course are included, but you will have to pay for the mandatory caddy.

The Beaches Negril Resort and Spa is another of Jamaica’s outstanding family-friendly vacation resorts.   Located on 20 acres along the widest stretch of Negril’s famous Seven Mile Beach, the Beaches Negril Resort has accommodations to suit everyone from solo travelers to families with toddlers.   All its rooms or villas have patios or balconies with ocean or garden views.

The family will be enchanted with Beaches Negril Resort‘s Pirates Island, with its own river, to dizzying water slides, a pool bar, and a snack and soda bar to keep both parents and kids relaxed and refreshed.    The self-serve ice cream machine may be the hit of your family’s entire Jamaican resort vacation!

Beaches Negril  has its own tennis court, open-air fitness center, and Xbox 360 Game Garage, and five world-class restaurants offering cuisine from Tex-Mex to Japanese to the International buffet where the kids can munch on fish fingers, to the Café Carnival with its fresh made-to-order pizzas.   Snacks and drinks are available around the clock.

Move to the Beat on a Jamaica Vacation

January 9, 2010 by admin

When you’re thinking about where to go for your next relaxing getaway with the kids, think about a Jamaica family vacation. Jamaica is such a beautiful island, and it’s not just for adults, as there are at least 5 kid-friendly resorts we can recommend. They are all-inclusive resorts, which means you know what you’re paying upfront and can relax without worrying about added expenses as the kids choose what they want to do and what they want to eat. There are three alone in the Sandals group of resorts. They are in the Beaches category (others in the Sandals group being the adult version) and are located in Boscobel, Negril, and Sandy Bay. On the north coast, Boscobel offers the adults a chance to laze on a soft beach while the kids frolic in a huge, beautiful state-of-the-art waterpark, pirate’s island, and games garage. Older kids and teens are welcomed into the golf and country club for activities, also. Competent babysitters can be hired after hours if parents want to have a leisurely evening. Negril, which is on the famed 7-mile beach, also has the game garage and pirate’s island, but it also has a Sesame Street-themed Caribbean adventure. What’s sure to keep the teens happy is a nightclub all their own; no parents allowed. Sandy Bay has very similar amenities but also emphasizes fitness with a fitness center and two pools. There are also complementary water sports like snorkeling, waterskiing, and kayaking that the whole family can do together. Franklin D Resort in spectacular Ochos Rios really exceeds expectations. Each family is assigned a personal nanny for the entire vacation. They watch over the kids as if their own, leaving adults free as much of the day as they’d like to have a real vacation. These “more than babysitters” often bond with so well with everyone that families want to return and ask for the same nanny. Lastly, you can have this same wonderful help at FDR Pebbles. It is perhaps more convenient than some other resorts for people that don’t have a lot of travel time, since it’s only 45 minutes from the airport. Will you have a good time on your Jamaica vacation? Will your children enjoy this beautiful Caribbean island? We can almost guarantee, “Yah, Mon. ”

Vacation with Vampires in Transylvania, a Top 10 Must-DO Adventure with Transylvania Live-expert in Transylvania

January 8, 2010 by admin

As everybody can imagine Transylvania is all about stunning scenery and terrific places. Everyone knows and fears Dracula; still everyone wants to travel to Transylvania.   Start packing without any worries. Most of the tours are guaranteed to depart on the dates given, as Transylvania Live do not insist on a minimum number of bookings before departure.

Add turtlenecks, garlic and scarves to the top of the packing list, muster some courage, and summon your sense of adventure. The ultimate adventure awaits in a distant land where a 15th-century ruler terrified all who dared to challenge his ways.

All along the Transylvanian way, the terrifying touring unfolds against a backdrop of some of the oldest forest and unaltered land in all of Europe. Transylvania shrouds itself with thick quilts of old pine, projects the Carpathian mountains’ stark peaks and then soothes its visitors with natural mineral spas.

A Vampire’s Lineage   The vampires caricatured for silent films, best-selling novels, cereal boxes and even “Sesame Street” all descended from Vlad III Draculea, a Romanian prince who reigned in the 15th century. The prince earned the nickname “Vlad the Impaler” for the merciless ruler’s gruesome method of doing away with enemies. His given surname, Anglicized as “Dracula,” is derived from the word meaning either “dragon” or “demon” in his native tongue.    Irish writer Bram Stoker drew inspiration from Vlad the Impaler for his novel “Dracula,” published in 1897. The book’s antagonist, a vicious Romanian count with a thirst for young blood, rises from his coffin bed and masochistically preys upon British newlyweds Jonathan Harker and Mira Murray. Decades later, the iconic vampire gave actors, including Bela Lugosi, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Gary Oldman film roles they could really sink their teeth into.

Retracing Dracula’s Tracks   If they dare, travelers on the Dracula trail can follow the vampire prince from birth to burial. Vlad Dracula entered this world in the Transylvania town of Sighisoara, noted for one of the region’s few walled fortresses. The house of Dracula’s birth, marked with a modest plaque on the door, now multitasks as a restaurant serving Romanian cuisine and a small museum of medieval weapons used during Vlad’s rule.    Although Castle Bran is strongly associated with Vlad Dracula, the foreboding edifice actually has the weakest historical ties to the Impaler. Perched at the apex of a narrow, climbing road near the city of Brasov, the massive stone building clearly inspired the cinematographers and animators who worked on just about every “Dracula” film project.

What remains of Vlad Dracula’s real abode can be found about 50 miles northwest of Bucharest near the town of Tirgoviste. The fortress ruins are almost inaccessible, requiring a climb of 1,500 steps up a mountain that overlooks a river basin. The castle served Dracula as a refuge from advancing enemies as well as a place to watch their demise. Among the palace ruins, visitors can make out the overlook tower from which Vlad viewed impalements that took place in the courtyard.    Vlad the Impaler’s own finale happened by assassination, after which his remains are said to have been entombed in the Snagov monastery just north of Bucharest. The 16th-century monastery, accessible only by boat, is situated on an island in the middle of a lake. Romanians still revere the ruler who defended their nation against the Turks, and continue to honor Dracula with a portrait and vases of fresh flowers near his resting place. Dracula Tours in Transylvania

Departing from Bucharest from June till September Vampire in Transylvania, the Awarded Dracula Tour offers a 7 days trip back in time, following Jonathan Harker’s footsteps but revealing the genuine historical facts and places. Includes the unique medieval citadel of Sighisoara – Vlad the Impaler’s birth place, the Saxon city of Brasov, Bistrita Citadel, the royal Peles Castle, the mysterious Bran Castle as well as Dracula’s Castle in Borgo Pass. In addition, the special activities prepared, all along the itinerary, bring out the essence of the genuine Transylvanian Folklore.

A 3 day Vampire in Transylvania short break including Killing of the Living Dead magical ritual is also available based on the low cost flights to Transylvania.

The itinerary of the Vampire in Transylvania tour was a major source of inspiration for Travel Channel. Transylvania Live has assisted them on a documentary based on Transylvanian dark legends.

A 12 day Halloween in Transylvania – Dracula Tour is offered in October with departure from Budapest, Hungary. It includes an unforgetable Halloween Party in the citadel of Sighisoara, Vlad Dracul birthplace.

Vacation Planning Tips To Include A Child With Autism

December 18, 2009 by admin

A family vacation should be relaxing and fun.   It should be an opportunity for family members to connect and enjoy each others company.   All too often, a family with a child with autism finds taking a family vacation too stressful.   More and more, family vacations are vacations for everyone except the child with autism.   I am the mother of two children.   My daughter is five and a half.   My son is ten.   My son is also nonverbal with a diagnosis of severe autism.   This does not stop us from taking vacations together.   I have found that, with well thought out planning, we have a terrific time together on family vacations. The first thing parents need to do when planning a vacation is determining the destination.   For all families, this means concentrating on family friendly, children friendly destinations.   It is the same for a family with a child diagnosed with autism.   You need to determine what your child’s interests are and what kind of places bring your child the most joy.   If you have more than one child, choose the interests that they share.   Once you have determined one or two common interests, you are ready to select a destination. Your next step is to determine how far you wish to travel to your vacation destination and whether or not you will drive or take a plane.   I recommend driving.   Once you are on a plane, you can not get off until the plane lands and is ready to disembark.   Children that are confined for a long period of time in a closed in environment, get bored, irritable, and may become unmanageable, depending on their age.   A child with autism is most likely to feel all those things and more.  Depending on your child, you could be looking at a full blown meltdown. You want a vacation that is low in stress.   There is no such thing as a completely stress free vacation for any family.   If you expect one, you will be disappointed.   The key is to accept this fact and to minimize the opportunities for stress.   Driving to your vacation destination allows the parent control over their environment that riding on a plane does not.   You can stop at any time and allow your child to get out and stretch his/her legs.   There are a lot of rest areas on Highways that have picnic areas.   These are perfect for giving your child an opportunity to run off excess energy and for everyone to eat and grab a drink. Now that you know how far you want to go for your vacation, whether to drive or take a plane, and what kind of vacation destination will interest your child, you are ready to pick a destination.   The internet is a great resource to start with.   You can search on your area of interest.   If you are looking at a vacation that includes a theme park, contact the theme park guest relations and ask them their specific policies for children with Autism.   Theme Parks may not post on their site their specific policies, but do have one in place to accommodate a family with a child diagnosed with Autism.   One of the common accommodations is to allow Front of the Line Passes for our families.   In order to get one, they usually require a letter of diagnosis from your child’s doctor. Below is a list of Autism friendly vacation destinations.   For more specific information about each, please refer to my Autism Friendly Vacation Destinations  post on my blog. 1. Sesame Place, located near Philadelphia in Langhorne, PA, only 90 minutes south of Manhattan. 2. Challenge Aspen in Snowmass, Colorado 3. Disney World 4. Busch Gardens 5. Sea World 6. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana . 7. Vacation Home Rentals 8. Smugglers’ Notch Resort in northern Vermont. 9. Surfer’s Healing Based in San Diego, 2009 camps will be held in California (several locations); Virginia Beach, VA; Wrightsville Beach, NC; Belmar, NJ; Montauk, NY. 10. Autism on the Seas 11. Leaps. . . n. . . Boundz – ” ‘Community Adventure Weekends’ 12. “Finger Lakes Wellness Center and Health Spa (in conjunction with Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort)13. Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, FL. Another important consideration when planning your vacation should be where you are planning to stay.   You can stay at a hotel or rent a vacation home or condo.   I prefer renting a suite at a hotel that has a kitchenette and separate bedroom for the adults.   It costs a little more, but it allows me to fix meals for my picky eater and a separate bedroom allows me a place to go when I need time for myself.    Now you can plan a great vacation for your family.   I would like to finish this article with a few final suggestions to help you.   1. Pack some favorite items/toys for your child 2. When traveling by car, take a lot of breaks. Make use of the Rest Areas along the Highway. 3. Prepare your child for your vacation. Talk about it and show pictures of your destination to your child. 4. Make sure you have a letter of diagnosis from your doctor. Also make sure you have all emergency medical information packed. If you have medicines, make sure you have enough for the whole trip. 5. If you use a schedule at home with your child, make one for the trip. 6. Pay attention to the cues your child has for alerting you how he/she is feeling. It is always better if you can head off a meltdown before it starts. This is not always possible, but just one less is a good thing.

toddler vacation, toddlers activity

December 17, 2009 by admin

Upon having a child, your entire vacation plans are immediately altered.   At first, it is difficult to go on any kind of vacation with a newborn.   Once they graduate to being a toddler, you can take them to some great vacation spots.   Here are some recommendations. One of the best places you can take a toddler for vacation is Sesame Place.   This is an especially good place if your child is familiar with Sesame Street and all of the characters.   Your toddler will certainly be excited to see all of the characters like Elmo and Big Bird.   Sesame Place is a one day adventure but there are also zoos and others parks nearby.   Sesame Place is located in Langhorne, PA.   The park is open daily until 8 p. m. Theme parks are a great idea for a vacation with your toddler.   When choosing a destination, Orlando, Florida should be at the top of your list.   The resorts that the theme parks are located on really cater to families.   They offer amenities such as baby changing stations and stroller rentals.   They also offer food prepared specifically for children of all ages. One idea you might not have thought of is going to an all-inclusive resort.   It is becoming more and more common for the resorts to provide 24-hour nurseries.   Even if you only use them for a small amount of time a day or during their nap, it is still a much needed break for you and a small amount of time to relax.   Another accomodating feature is that many rooms offer 24 hours room service and a mini-fridge.   While not the most cost-efficient options, both of these provide a great level of convenience when needed. Some find it beneficial to travel leisurely when taking a toddler on vacation.   A benefit of it is, there is no fear in anticipation of getting on the plane.   Also, is is very likely that your child will take a nap during the ride.   It is advised to travel in the evening so it is more likely your toddler will become tired during the drive so they can sleep for thee majority of it.  When travelling with a toddler, it is a good idea to plan many stops along the way.   This is so you can get out, walk around, grab some refreshments, change diapers, etc.   It is important to not get in a hurry while travelling, because there is going to be a lot of stress trying to rush a toddler.   It is a predicament that can be avoided by allowing extra time to travel. Also, it is important to try to maintain the same routine that you keep your toddler on while at home. If your toddler is used to taking a nap at 2 p. m. then do everything you can to maintain this.   Doing this will keep your child comfortable and allow him or her to stay in a comfort zone. Travelling with a toddler can be a difficult time for scheduling fanatics. Do your best to try to keep it loose.   Plan plenty of time between activities.   Most of all, don’t forget about yourself.   Try to find things that you and your toddler can enjoy, such as the examples I listed above.   They are fun for the toddler as well as fun for you.
