Classic Sesame Street: Episode 3408

Original airdate: December 6, 1995. Celine, a dance teacher on the street, shows her young students the number seven and a video of the “Alligator King” song/cartoon; both of these puzzle Big Bird, who didn’t expect either one in a dance class. However, Celine explains that she wants to adapt the cartoon into a live performance by Big Bird and the other seven children. Big Bird hopes to play the Alligator King, since he’s a boy and the biggest student in the class; when Celine randomly selects roles for everyone, though, Gabi becomes the “Alligator Queen” and Big Bird becomes the youngest child. All through the day, a disappointed Big Bird tries to hide his feelings and find a way to switch roles with Gabi–only to fail until the very end. Other notable highlights– * Ernie and Elmo sing “One Fine Face” * Sand Letters: J/j * Consonant Sound: J for Jaguar (silent jigsaw puzzle) * Chinese girl describes her New Year’s festival * Cartoon: Angry girl describes her bad day at home (John Korty) * Song: Grover, Cookie Monster, Herry and Frazzle perform “Fuzzy and Blue (and Orange)” * The Count’s Storybook Theatre: “The Magnificent Seven” * Elmo and Rosie O’Donnell rap the alphabet * Song: Polly Darton performs “Save Your Energy for Me” * TV set recites a poem about saving electricity (looks like a Sally Cruikshank cartoon; can the artist confirm/deny this, please?) * CGI animation: Planet J/j (voice-over by Sonia Manzano)
