It’s from Bizet:Carmen The toreador aria.
You Tube is actually a good place to enjoy some good rendition.
Try Gino Becchi’s version for a full blooded, classic interpretation in both sound and spectacle.

That is one of his best performances sadly its on sesame street, But I am glad of SS and Looney Toons for introducing children to classical music. Hell my dad only knew classical music cause it was on looney toons as a kid.

We need to beam this video continuously into outer space. If aliens knew we had Sesame Street *and* Samuel Ramey they would recognize us as gods.

I do hope the producers of Sesame Street have preserved all those videotapes. What a historical document of who’s who in this time period.

Of course, the kiddies don’t realize the quality of the guest stars. I remember one time viewing a Sesame Street broadcast that featured Big Bird, guest star poet Maya Angelou and a bunch of kiddies playing ring around the rosy. I wondered if the kids had any concept who they were rosying with?
